Transforming Food Systems for Climate, Livelihoods and Resilience

Our food systems aren’t just about putting meals on the table – they’re deeply woven into who we are as societies, providing jobs and keeping our cultural traditions alive. When we tackle climate issues in our food systems, we solve multiple problems simultaneously.

Think about it – when farmers adopt climate-smart practices, they’re not just fighting climate change. They’re also helping ensure people don’t go hungry, creating better jobs, and spurring innovation in farming. It’s like hitting several birds with one stone – from making sure everyone has enough to eat to protecting our forests and wildlife.

What’s really encouraging is that many countries are starting to get this. They’re including these multiple benefits in their climate plans, showing they understand that everything’s connected. But – and this is a big but – there’s a serious problem with funding. Right now, we’re nowhere near where we need to be. The money going into climate-friendly food systems is just a fraction of what’s needed – we’re talking about needing 40 times more than what we’re currently investing!

If we don’t fix this funding gap soon, we’re in trouble. We risk pushing our ecosystems and communities past the point of no return. We need to get creative with funding solutions and get both governments and businesses on board.

We know what needs to be done, and we know it’ll help solve multiple challenges at once. Now we just need to put our money where our mouth is and make it happen. Our future depends on it.
