My journey with Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, has been a long and fulfilling one. From supporting their hydro-met services to developing flood forecasting in the Wangchhu River Basin (https://lnkd.in/gj7aW5aN), conducting climate risk assessments for hydro-power and water resources management, and building capacity on disaster risk reduction – it’s been a deeply rewarding experience.
Climate change is not a distant threat but a present reality. Our study on Bhutan’s hydro-climate extremes underscores this, painting a future of increased water yield due to rising temperatures and precipitation. This could both challenge and reshape Bhutan’s water resource management. It’s a call to action for all nations to integrate climate impact research into planning processes and to adopt proactive, science-based strategies for a sustainable future. Let’s act now to safeguard our water security and ensure a resilient world for future generations.
